Musician and Calgary guitar teacher, Guy Onraet, released his debut solo album Invention City in 2009, and his music features in dozens of commercial videos.
Guy was featured in the November 2009 edition of Guitar Player magazine, in chief editor Michael Molenda's "Editor Boy's Big Eight". He also headlined Evolution Rock’s Masters of Shred Episode 6 and was featured in the World Cup Special.
Guy started his musical life in South Africa at age 8, taking piano lessons and composing piano pieces. He picked up a guitar at age 16, and was soon writing songs and fronting a band. Guy gigged in his local area during high school, but it was at university that he became interested in lead guitar, and enrolled in formal guitar instruction.
After gaining an interest in recording, Guy built a home studio and began recording multi-track demos. At around the same time, he started his mentoring with virtuoso guitarist and master guitar teacher Tom Hess.
Guy was actively involved with a variety of music projects in Cape Town, South Africa, and maintained a busy schedule offering guitar lessons. He relocated to Calgary in 2010, where he maintains a home studio and is constantly on the lookout for people to collaborate with – from session work to regular gigs. His current project is the rock trio AvisRex.
Guy also offers guitar lessons in Calgary, operating out of his home studio. Make contact today and book a free guitar lesson consultation.
